How To Use a Charcoal Grill The Proper Way
Planning to go for camping along with your family this weekend? Gathering the basic and most important requisites for camping is not such a big task such as the tents, tools to set up the tent, sleeping bags, BBQ grill, cooking items, et cetera.
But, there are quite a few things that we need to learn beforehand you set off for the weekend trip. Some of the things things that you need to learn to include firstly, how to use a charcoal grill and secondly, how to make your own BBQ rub. Let’s have a look at the first one in this article.
Initially, using the charcoal might scare you, and you might not be having the expertise to do the same without anybody’s guidance. In order to sort things out for you and make you less clueless about this issue, here are the steps that you can follow or refer to before proceeding with grilling your meal on the kettle.
First Steps of Use
First of all, prepare your kettle for preheating. Before doing so, you must check that the dampers which are present at the bottom of the kettle and those which are present in the lid of the kettle are open totally. Once you have cross-checked this, the top cooking grate must be removed and hung off the handle of the kettle. To proceed further with the process, the chimney starter of the kettle must be filled by you. The chimney starter has to be filled halfway (say about fifty to sixty briquettes) using the charcoal. Next, you have to take the bottom grate or say the charcoal grate and then place the 2 light cubes of charcoal right beneath the chimney starter to ultimately light it up. Let the time pass by and wait until the cubes of charcoal have turned into complete ash. This might take over and about 10 to 15 minutes of span of time.
Once you are done with all the instructions that are mentioned above, your kettle is ready to be preheated. Then, the ash of the charcoal that is already there has to be dumped by you on the grate of charcoal. This can be done using a grill mitt to dump out the ash evenly. In order to set up the grill in a great and well-prepared way, you will have to put all of the lit charcoal in a particular zoned out place of the grill so that you have a safe zone or merely a dedicated place where you can perform some indirect grilling on the BBQ.
Now that your charcoal grate is all set to go, you have put the cooking grate on the grill of charcoal grate on the BBQ. Now, cover the top of kettle using the lid and cross-check positively that the lid vent of the kettle is totally open. Let it stay there for the duration of about 10 to 15 minutes. This is done to ensure that the kettle is properly preheated. By the time the kettle is taking its own good time to preheat, you can simultaneously prepare all the other things that you might need to proceed on with. Hence, side by side you can prepare your steaks. To prepare the steak for barbecuing, you will have to timely remove the steaks from the refrigerator and put them out in order to bring its temperature down to the room temperature. Once their temperature matches with that of the room, you can sprinkle olive oil on the steaks to prepare it for cooking. After applying proper olive oil to the steak, you can add seasoning to the steak to add to the flavour. There is no hard and fast rule as to which all seasonings you have to apply, you can simply season it with all those things that you like be it salt, pepper or garlic or all of them together.
Get The Grill Ready
Now, on one hand, we have our grill ready and preheated, and on the other hand, we are ready with even the steaks that need to be barbecued. So now, use the hook on the kettle’s lid to hang off the bowl. And the next time you plan to grill, this is the moment where you will have to stop and clean the charcoal grates with the help of Weber stainless steel brush.
To proceed with, you can now put the already prepared steaks on the cooking grate (and this has to be placed in that part of the grill which we have specially laid out for charcoals). Once the steaks are rightly placed, you can shut the lid of the kettle and wait for about 3 to 4 minutes. Once the span of 3 to 4 minutes is over, you can remove the lid of the kettle (don’t just be in a rush and remember to wear hand gloves to prevent any sort of injury while cooking). You can remove the lid and hang it from the bowl. Now, using the tongs and other instruments for the same purpose, you will have to flip the sides of the steaks again in the region where you placed charcoal on the grill. After such flipping, cover the lid of the kettle and let it cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. After a span of 3 to 4 minutes, you can open the lid and check if the steaks are all ready to be consumed by you!
And Voila! Your own made bit of heaven.
