Bagged Vacuum Buyer’s Guide

We hope you’ve managed to find a vacuum that may be suitable for your cleaning needs from the list above. But to help you make a more informed decision about which vacuum to buy we’ve outlined some interesting information about bagged vacuums below.  As of course with any product investment like a vacuum, you want to know everything before going ahead with your decision.

Again don’t worry because we’ve done all the hard work for you, so all you need to do is continue reading the info below.  Unfortunately, when it comes to the actual cleaning of your home, that tasks on you but at least you’ll have a handy vacuum to ease the chore.

Benefits of Bagged Vacuums

We find that there are many advantages to bagged vacuum cleaners, I mean what’s not to love they’re clean, quick, and convenient. Honestly, when we say they’re convenient we really mean it, bagless vacuums are often advertised as the easiest to use with little maintenance.  However, you usually have to clean bagless vacuums out more than a bagged vacuum. Bagged vacuums are great as they don’t need their bags replacing as much as you would need to empty a bagless vacuum.

Secondly, bagged vacuums are often the better option for those suffering from allergies. Although bagless cleaners often appear to be better for allergy suffers given their great HEPA filtration on most. However, when you empty the canister of a bagless vacuum, you end up letting out all of the dust and dirt that you’ve collected escape. This means you end up putting all the dirt particles, you just cleared up, back into the air of your home!

Which if you ask us is not only pretty annoying, and is no good for those suffering from allergies as the dust circulates in the air and aggravates your condition. This is why a bagged vacuum is usually the better option for those with allergy conditions. With bagged vacuums, the dust and dirt stay trapped inside the bag and even when you empty the bag from the vacuum none of the dust and dirt can escape! Bagged vacuums are also great for those with a set budget.

Although they may not seem it because you have to buy replacement bags now again, the bags are usually inexpensive, and you’ll be buying them very infrequently. Bagless vacuums, however, are often very expensive – despite both vacuum models being able to perform and clean your house just the same.

So even though bagless vacuums may seem like a cheaper long term purchase – they’re actually not. Overall, we realize bagless vacuums also have their advantages, but if you’re looking for a convenient and clean vacuum, we would definitely recommend a bagged vacuum more.  Especially if you or one of your family members suffers from allergies because it is amazing how much difference a bagged vacuum can make to those prone to allergy breakouts because of dust.

How to Change/Clean a Bagged Vacuum

An important factor to consider when buying a bagged vacuum is knowing how to clean it. Bagged vacuums are one of the most popular and common vacuums out there. However, not everyone knows how to clean and maintain a bagged vacuum properly.  We can’t stress enough how important it is to look after a bagged vacuum properly, because if you do, you’ll have a powerful long-lasting vacuum for many years. For example, you must always remember to change your bags on time as this will dramatically increase the life of your vacuum.

One important reminder is to always make sure your vacuum is not plugged in before you start to clean it otherwise you may be in for a nasty electric shock. When you go to remove the bag of a vacuum, you’ll be able to detach it by looking for the area where the hose is connected to the main body of the vacuum.

This is often located under where the pipes enter the vacuum. Once you’ve located this area, you should be able to find a button which upon being pressed will release the bag. There are slightly different ways of doing this on different vacuum models however the scenario is mostly the same.

After you’ve done this you’ll be able to pull the bag out – here you can inspect whether or not the bag is full. If it is not, simply reverse these steps to put it back in. If you do however need to clean or change the bag. Experts recommend you clean the bag if it is a 3rd full and suggest you change your bag if it is half full.

To put your new or cleaned bag back in you should always double check it is in properly by tugging and pulling on it. Otherwise, the dirt can end up blowing everywhere – creating more of a mess to vacuum than what you began with! Trust us, this isn’t a fun task to do.

Once you’ve popped your bag inside you should be able to close your vacuum up. After this you should check that your brushrolls are clean, these are most often located at the bottom and front of your vacuum cleaner. When cleaning your brushroll, you should look carefully at the rollers to make sure nothing is looped around it.  To get any long hair, string or debris off which is stuck on your roller, you can remove them gently by simply pulling with your fingers and cutting any knots with a pair of scissors. You can also lubricate the bearings of the brushroll while you are here – as they often build up a lot of dirt.

You can also buy a brushroller cleaner brush if it does not already come with your vacuum, these handy tools are great for sweeping off the extra dirt that sticks in the rollers of your vacuum.  After this, you should have your self a much cleaner vacuum, which will help the lifespan of your product and make sure you’re actually cleaning when you use it, instead of just leaving more dirt all over the house.

Expert Tip

If you’re cleaning stairs with your vacuum make sure you vacuum from the bottom of the staircase first and work your way up!

Did you know?

You should always change your bags on time, this will help prolong the lifecycle of your vacuum.
